The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau paid a visit to the Welcome Centre and met with refugee families during their September 2016 tour of British Columbia.
Terra began providing development management services to ISSofBC in 2011, working to develop the new Welcome Centre, an integrated regional services hub and 138 bed transitional housing facility serving recently arrived immigrants who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Welcome Centre brings together several immigrant-serving service organizations, public institutions, government services, ELL classes, settlement services and other specialized programs geared specifically towards meeting the immediate needs of newcomers to BC. The unique feature of the transitional housing is its flexible design which creates the ability to adapt to specific family sizes. Features of the building include a law clinic, food bank, teaching facility, immigrant youth drop-in, specialized child-minding centre, Vancity banking kiosk and the corporate offices of ISSofBC.
