KNH Community Service and Affordable Seniors Housing Project

KNH Community Service and Affordable Seniors Housing Project

KNH Community Service and Affordable Seniors Housing Project

Terra began working with the Society in 2008 to develop this complex and unique project, which involved the renovation and heritage preservation of two buildings on the Kits House site and the addition of new affordable housing units for seniors. The community centre was a former church hall and class A heritage building; the site also contains a class C heritage house.

The new seniors housing project connects these two heritage buildings bringing much needed new affordable units to an area with rising rents, allowing long time community residents to remain in their familiar neighbourhood. The project houses the community centre offices and programs, including a daycare centre and seniors programming.

This LEED Gold certified project is a prototype of environmentally sustainable development. It won a 2016 Heritage Conservation Award of Recognition as well as a 2016 Georgie Award for Best Public-Private Partnership.
