Iris House

Iris House | New View Society

Iris House | New View Society

This project required the redevelopment of the Society’s original site, including demolition of the existing, inadequate building and selling a portion of the land to help fund the new building. The heritage feel of the original building and some of the heritage features including the fireplace and stained glass window were retained.

Terra worked with the Society to create strategic financial solutions to the many funding obstacles that emerged and achieve the new building they and the neighbouring community wanted. Terra assisted the Society in their efforts to raise the necessary capital to move the project forward, not only by identifying various funding streams and financing options, but also by identifying design efficiencies and equity opportunities.

Iris House provides 10 units of housing and support for people who have psychiatric disabilities and who may have co-occurring disorders such as addictions. The building also houses a Wellness Centre providing services to the residents and other non-resident members of the community. Amenity spaces include includes a community kitchen and a clubhouse for the broader programming requirements, as well as permanent office space.
