Holmberg House Breaks Ground

The Abbotsford Hospice Society celebrated the start of construction of their new hospice facility, the first of its kind in Abbotsford.  When complete, Holmberg House, named in honour of Dave Holmberg Jr. who passed away in March 2011 at the age of 48, will provide dignified end-of-life care to adults as young as 19.  Features such as a restorative garden, music and art therapy rooms will create a serene setting for patients and their loved ones.

"This is an amazing day" said AHS Chairman Angelo Rea, addressing the crowd which included Mayor Bruce Banman, the Hon. Michael de Jong, Minister of Finance and MLA for West Abbotsford, Debbie Lehmann, Executive Director of AHS and the Holmberg family.

"This is a world model" declared Mayor Banman, "a home of the heart".

Holmberg House is part of the Dave Lede Campus of Care on the Marshall Road site.  When complete, the site will include Matthews House, a facility providing long and short-term respite care to children from across British Columbia who live with complex physical needs and their families, and Canuck Place Abbotsford, which will provide care for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Terra is providing development management services to the Society to see the successful completion of this exciting and unique project.  Terra was also a Compassion Circle Sponsor for "Enchanted", Abbotsford Hospice Society's Gala Fundraiser held on March 9, 2013.
