Joy’s Place

The Society presented Terra with a Turning Points Award in 2013, in recognition of Terra’s significant contribution to making a difference to the future of the Society and their clients. The Society provides counselling, victim assistance and emergency housing to women and their children who have been impacted by violence and abuse in the Tri-Cities communities of Port Moody, Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam, Anmore and Belcarra.

Originally, Terra was hired to produce a facility and services review and a facility strategy for the Society. This included organizing a community roundtable with stakeholders to discuss partnership opportunities to develop supportive housing in the Tri-Cities.

Terra then worked with the Society to enable TCT to move their operations from their existing provincially-owned facility to a larger and newer Society-owned building, while maintaining the operating funding for their much needed housing and programs. The project also added four new emergency beds and six longer-term transitional beds to the Society’s portfolio. Terra helped the Society create and then carry out their business plan. This entailed securing capital funding for the project, negotiating the contract for purchase and sale for the new building and assisting with negotiations to ensure the current BC Housing operating funding would remain in place when the sale completed.
