Kamloops Family Rental Housing Underway

Terra principal, Simon Davie, helped to turn the sod at the August official groundbreaking of this John Howard Society Thompson Region (JHSTR) project on Columbia Street West in Kamloops.  Chief Executive Officer of JHSTR, Dawn Hrycun, was eager to launch construction and took a turn at the controls of the excavator.

Terra has previously worked with the Society to complete their buildings Bedford Manor, Georgian Court and Victory Inn.

The new project, Skyview Ridge, will provide 15 townhouse units for families whose income is below the median.  There is an increasing need for more affordable, safe housing for families in Kamloops and this is the first project developed in a long time which focuses solely on affordable rental family housing.

Historically, JHSTR has housed men and women at risk of homelessness, many of whom are offenders or at risk of offending, most who also have addictions, mental illness and/or brain injuries.  In recent years, JHSTR's core client base has been expanding, and the Society is now working more frequently with families who are negatively impacted by a family member going to jail.
