Surrounded by colleagues, friends, and family, Terra principal, Jim O’Dea, was given the 2012 Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Award at a ceremony on May 3, 2012 during the CHRA (Canadian Housing & Renewal Association) 44th National Congress on Housing & Homelessness.

The CMHC award is presented annually to recognize an individual’s outstanding contribution to affordable housing.  Jim was recognized for his involvement in social purpose real estate delivery for almost 40 years, his long-term commitment to both CHRA and CMHC and his leadership and advocacy for affordable housing from coast to coast.

Serendipitously, the Awards Luncheon was held in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  This is the city where it all began - where Jim’s housing career was launched in 1973, as the Manager of Housing Programs and Operating Agreements for CMHC.

Previously, Jim was awarded CHRA’s Graham Emslie Award in 2000.  This award, established to honour Graham Emslie, a former CHRA president, honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to housing and community development.
